Meet Smarter: Kramer introduces the VIA Family of Collaboration Products

Kramer Electronics is pleased to officially announce the introduction of the new VIA product line, including the award winning VIA Collage™, the VIA Connect PRO™, and the VIA Connect™. These wireless collaboration devices allow people to “Meet Smarter” through connection, collaboration, and engagement by providing them with a shared workspace that makes team collaboration in real time seamless and simple.

“We are very excited about the introduction of the VIA family of products because BYOD, collaboration and wireless applications are increasingly critical in today’s converging AV/IT world.  The VIA line of products offer the best solutions in the market and we are pleased to add these products to our already comprehensive line of solutions,” stated Dr. Joseph Kramer, CEO of Kramer Electronics.

The VIA Collage won Best in Show awards at the 2014 InfoComm Show from Government Video Magazine, Sound & Video Contractor Magazine, and AV Technology Magazine.  The VIA Collage is Kramer’s most advanced and powerful collaboration hub. This wireless device solves BYOD challenges and allows for the effective integration of PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices, allowing users to wirelessly collaborate in any meeting.

With the VIA Collage, files can be shared quickly and easily between participants or with all participants at once. The VIA Collage also allows for full 1080p/60 HD video streaming and the main unit even has an HDMI input to allow the integration of an external video source. Up to 6 presenters’ screens can be dynamically displayed on a single display device and up to 12 can be shown simultaneously when two display devices are used.

Crestron Introduces Next Generation DigitalMedia™ Presentation Systems with Built-in 3-Series Control System®

New models speed and simplify system installations thanks to new automatic display and switching control

Crestron announced today it is now shipping its new DMPS3-200-C and DMPS3-300-C all-in-one presentation systems. With a built-in Crestron 3-Series Control System®, these next generation models deliver unprecedented performance and convenience in a network-grade appliance.

Faster processing, no programming
The DMPS3-200-C and DMPS3-300-C make installation and commissioning easier than ever. How easy? You can get a matrix switching system up and running without even touching a laptop.

Go configure
Systems integrators can configure the DMPS3-200-C and DMPS3-300-C, including selection of display drivers, right from the optional pre-loaded TSW-750 touch screen, or from an iPad® or computer. They need only answer a few simple questions; select a display, sources, icons, and text labels. Why you should consider ‘sticky’ content for your digital signage

When executed properly and in the right context, digital signage can leverage sticky content to inform, inspire and motivate. It provides a concrete reason for viewers to return their glances again and again.

What is sticky content? The term comes from Internet lingo. It refers to content added to a website that has the purpose of getting users to return to that particular website and hold Digital sign asking if your dooh is stickytheir attention longer than just a glance. This is why we commonly see such things as Internet games, weather, news and horoscopes on personalized Web portals.

There’s no question that the traits of sticky content can also be useful with many digital signage applications. As many longtime operators of digital signage systems and networks will tell you, advertising loops are not very “sticky” when removed from the context of point-of-sale locations. After all, how many of us flop in front of the television and flip on the “advertising channel” for late night entertainment?

The question we explore today is how this principle of sticky content can be applied to digital signage, and because content matters, what is likely the best sticky content differs when using digital signage in point-of-wait and point-of-transit locations. It’s important to know and distinguish the psychological differences between viewers’ attention spans and perceptions in all three possible contexts of digital signage, POS, POW and POT. If you need to brush up on content guidelines quickly, the Digital Sign Content Best Practices guide from the University of Michigan should help you.

Basically, sticky content is about piggybacking existing content onto another medium to yield a greater value. For example, NASA scientists are considering a plan to piggyback future astronauts on — or even inside — asteroids orbiting between Earth and Mars to shield them from cancer-causing space radiation during trips between the planets.

While the proposal has some disadvantages, it offers the space agency an appealing, elegant way to sidestep problems like building a rocket big enough to boost heavy, man-made shielding into space as part of the spacecraft.

The plan draws on an ancient concept: Piggyback on — or inside — a more powerful object to get to a desired destination. Whether it’s buckling up in our cars, riding an elephant into battle after traversing the Alps, or climbing into a hollow wooden horse and being rolled up to the gates of Troy, the concept of piggybacking has a track record of success.

In the world of digital signage, sticky content piggybacks on your message and plays an important role in yielding a greater viewer value because it delivers something people generally want — to be entertained. Nothing can really do this better than television.

Site Preparations

AV Installationphoto credit:saville-av.com

You have found the ideal AV Solution for your application, made tons of pricing comparisons and finally settled for an excellent deal. You might think this is the end of your job as the rest lies with the installer; a common mistake very often committed by users.

A successful and well-planned AV installation job will not be possible without good coordination and on-site preparation. Of course we do not mean for the user to be preparing the cabling works but more like getting the site laid up to allow the installer sufficient work space.

Some of the good practices by users include:

–       AV Installation should be scheduled at the end after all other renovating works to prevent damage of the equipment by other contractors

–       Clearing away/ shifting aside unnecessary furniture that might obstruct the installation

–       Ensuring sufficient power points available for the equipments

–       Remove any unnecessary decorations that might obstruct the installation or mountings

–       Ensure that the necessary racking for the equipments are ready

–       Ensure that sufficient time is given for any unforeseen circumstances during testing

–       Make sure the job site is clean and free from debris from other renovation works to avoid dirtying the equipments after installation

Last but not least, users must take ownership of the position of where you want to mount the equipment. Installer will advise against some locations if it affects the performance of the equipment.

Hope the above helps to make your AV Installation a smooth and pleasant experience.

Installation – It’s about Quality, not Cost

Installationphoto credit:epson.ca

So often we found users to spend all their effort in getting the best possible projector with the bulk of their available budget and settle for the cheapest possible installation job without understanding what they are getting.

Installation is not just simply drilling 4 holes and fastens 4 screws and nuts in place; it’s a combination of good craftsmanship, material and experience. Regardless of the level of the cost, understanding what you might be getting for your installation could prove just as important, if not, more important than getting the right projector.

One does not need to be an IT or AV expert to know what to look out for when it comes to installation. Below are a few simple pointers to help you check through the crucial components for a quality installation:

Pre Installation Checks

–       Position of projector, screen and receptacle point

–       Type of cables used based on the length of installation (to minimize signal loss which can result in poor image quality)

–       Any audio system to go along with the projector

–       How the cables are laid and feasibility of future maintenance

During Installation Checks

–       Ensure all cabling are in proper conduits and trunkings

–       Test all connections to ensure the quality of the projection

–       Minimize keystone correction on projector and proper calibration to obtain a clear sharp image

–       Ensure projector is properly secured onto the mounting and no vibration due to outside elements (i.e. air-conditioning)

After Installation Checks

–       Check the ease of maintenance

–       Ensure sufficient security on the projector

Conditions might vary from places to places and it is best to consult a trusted System Integrator to explain through the installation works before the actual installation.
