Home Projection Is Beautiful and Easy With the Epson Home Cinema 3700

Why the Epson Home Cinema 3700?

With big family electronics purchases often saved for Christmas, you might be in the market for a new television. But before you plunk down hundreds of dollars on another flat screen that’s only a marginal improvement on the last flat screen and is almost guaranteed to seem a bit small when you get it home in your living room, why not step up to a projector? The Epson Home Cinema 3700 can project a bigger and brighter picture than most flat screens–at a better price per square inch than just about anything.

Epson Home Cinema 3700 Specifications

The Epson Home Cinema 3700 is a 3LCD projector that projects in 1080p, meaning you’ll get a picture that’s every bit as crisp as any of the flat screens at the local big box store. The 3LCD means the projector uses 3-chip technology, which Epson claims will result in colors that are three times brighter than competitive projectors, both colors and whites outputting at up to 3,000 lumens, which should be enough for even rooms with windows. Having colors match the brightness of whites onscreen mean everything seems balanced. What’s more, the projector boasts a contrast ratio up to 70,000:1, for some dark blacks. The picture is stunning!

A projector can throw a 110″ picture on to a wall in a very short distance–as little as ten feet. But that’s just one option. The 3700 can show a crisp image at 30 inches to 300 inches, all in a short space, thanks to its 1.6x zoom and auto iris lens.

Additionally, the 3700 has built-in, dual 10 watt speakers, which actually are pretty decent–if the projector is sitting just above or in front of you and are adequate when you have no other options, but for serious sound, you are going to want to hook the projector up to a receiver or amplifier and speakers. And if you’re up for it, the 3700 can project 3D movies (glasses not included).

Getting the Home Cinema 3700 from the store to your living room won’t be a challenge. You won’t need to borrow the neighbor’s truck or clean out the back of your van. At about 16″ x 12″ x 6″ and just 15 pounds, you could bring this one home from the store on a bicycle–just another benefit of a projector over a big, awkward flat screen.

Setup is a breeze. Just plug in the projector, connect your video device, make a couple, quick focus adjustments, and you’re off and running. The projector has a home button, which directs you to some simple settings. You can go deeper and detailed if you wish, of course, but if you get lost, a simple tap of home and you’re back to familiar territory. Aside from the power, there are a handful of outputs on the back: two HDMI (one for MHL), a USB, audio out jack, and a D-Sub 15-pin connector.

Epson sees potential in burgeoning home projector business

The company’s Asia executives were surprisingly bullish about the next few years despite competition from large-screen TVs.

With prices falling and screen sizes increasing, large-screen TVs have become quite the affordable commodity. In Singapore, a Toshiba 58-inch LED TV can be bought for as low as S$1,649 ($1,320), about half what a freshly minted graduate makes per month in the island state. So it’s interesting to note how bullish Epson’s executives were about the home projector market in Asia for the next few years.

“There’s still potential for growth in China. Total market size in the country is expected to double every year until the year 2020,” says Kenichi Yamamoto, Epson’s general manager of itsprojector sales and marketing division.

And while TVs and home projectors can co-exist, Yamamoto says home projectors have a few advantages over normal TV displays.

“Normally, owners of home projectors have screen sizes of around 87 to 100 inches, and in order for TVs to catch up to the sizes that home projectors can do, it will take around five to 10 years [at equivalent prices],” Yamamoto says. “And I don’t think there is a big difference in power consumption, but from a total power consumption point of view, projectors are still lower.”

Budget Without Compromise

Building a large screen home ‘theatre’ is probably on many homeowners’ wish list. They are often held back by the prospect of facing a 5 to 6 digit price tag that has so often been acquainted with home entertainment system.

But if it is for the sole purpose of getting up a 100” screen for your “wide-screen” experience in the living room or in your bedroom, you will be pleasantly surprise that it can be done within a few thousand dollars.

The Projector:

Projectors are generally classified into 2 groups. They are Data projectors (also known as video projectors) and Home projectors. The basic projection systems of both groups of projectors are pretty similar but Home projectors are equipped with better video processing and high contrast capabilities. Having said that, it means a much more sophisticated chip-set and lens system, which justify the higher price tags for Home projectors.

However if you are tight on your budget, the latest data projectors (especially those which come with HDMI port) should still give you a pretty decent picture.

Data Projector Price Range: $800 – $2000

Home Projector Price Range: $2000 – $4000

Sound System:

A basic sound system comprises of an amplifier/ mixer and Speakers, which can be readily available for plug and play.

Sound System Price Range: $300 – $1500

Screen:

A matt white screen will do the job. Projection onto a flat wall painted with matt white paint will also do the job.

Manual Pull-Down Screen Price Range: $200 – $500

Find the best possible equipments with your available budget and with the necessary equipments in place, all that is left is to plug in your Blueray, PS3 or Nintendo Wii for the ultimate large screen experience in comfort of your home!

Note:

The prices above serve as an indication only, as different brands and models prices varies.
